The commercial services team is made up of ten state-certified commercial appraisers, five appraiser trainees, and an additional administrative support staff of five.  Three of the ten certified appraisers have achieved the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.

Rick Murphy, MAI, SRA

Rick Murphy,MAI, SRA, has worked in real estate in the greater New Orleans area since 1984. In 1991, he founded Murphy Appraisal Services, LLC, a full-service appraisal firm that currently has offices throughout Louisiana.

A state-certified general real estate appraiser in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina, Mr. Murphy also has a real estate brokerage license in Louisiana. He holds the MAI SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute. He previously served as head of the New Orleans Sub Chapter of the Appraisal Institute as well as a member of the Regional Ethics and Counseling Panel and the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

Mr. Murphy attended Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louisiana State University. His hobbies include golf, hunting, fishing and travel. Mr. Murphy and his wife Lori live in Covington.  They have two grown daughters.

Ashton Ray

Ashton W. Ray, MAI


Ashton W. Ray, MAI, joined Murphy Appraisal Services in April 2005 and became a state certified general real estate appraiser in January 2009.  He received his MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in June of 2015.  He is the manager of the Hammond office and primarily focuses along the I-12 corridor as well the Mississippi Gulf Coast market. Mr. Ray has a Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama appraisal license. He has completed many commercial appraisals including single tenant and multitenant office buildings, retail strip centers, mixed-use developments, apartment complexes, golf courses, etc.  His area of expertise is subdivision developments (residential, industrial, or commercial) and self-storage facilities.

Mr. Ray currently resides in Amite, Louisiana with his wife, Brandi, and their three sons, Eli, Cohen and Oliver. After graduating from LSU in 2003, he started his career at Well Fargo Financial in Dallas, Texas. Extracurricular activities include hunting, fishing, the occasional golf outing, and spending time with his family. He is the president of the Amite Area Youth Sport Organization, and sits on the board of the Audubon Center Condo Association and the Tangipahoa Parish Forestry Association. Ashton is also a licensed real estate agent with 10/12 Properties and is active in the real estate market.

Neal S. Meyer, R/W-AC

Neal Scott Meyer joined Murphy Appraisal in 2003 and became a Partner in 2010. He splits appraisal duties between condemnation-related appraisal work and general appraisal work. Neal holds the R/W-AC designation from the International Right of Way Association and is also working towards his MAI.  Neal is a board member of the International Right of Way Association, an Associate Member of the Appraisal Institute and is a state certified general real estate appraiser in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. Mr. Meyer attained a Bachelor of Science from Rhodes College in 2002 and lives in Uptown New Orleans. He is married with three children. William Summerour

William Summerour joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2007 and became a partner with the company in 2010. Mr. Summerour is a state certified general real estate appraiser now working towards his MAI designation. His primary areas of focus include larger scale investment properties such as net lease properties, shopping centers, apartment complexes, office buildings, and historic properties.

Prior to joining Murphy Appraisal, he served as an Emergency Management Planner for the URS Corporation. In that capacity, he worked an array of post-Hurricane Katrina recovery assignments, including the development of the new City of New Orleans Assisted Evacuation Plan.

Mr. Summerour graduated from the University of Virginia School of Engineering in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in systems and information engineering. Prior to attending the university, he was valedictorian of his graduating class at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. He currently resides with his wife and two daughters in New Orleans. Mr. Summerour sits on the board of the Regional Loan Corporation and serves on Jefferson Scholarship Foundation. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and coaching youth soccer.

Thomas M. Hancock, MAI

Thomas M. Hancock, MAI, joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2010, and is a state certified general real estate appraiser in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. In October of 2018, the Appraisal Institute awarded Mr. Hancock the MAI designation, which is the highest level of designation awarded in the appraisal industry globally.

Mr. Hancock is recognized as one of the foremost experts in appraising and valuing income producing properties in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. In addition to appraisal practice, Mr. Hancock also serves as a real estate consultant to various private clients, is a licensed real estate agent with 10/12 Properties, and is a regular contributor for Inside New Orleans Magazine.

Mr. Hancock is a Nashville, Tennessee native, where he attended Montgomery Bell Academy. He graduated from University of Tennessee, where he majored in marketing and logistics and minored in operations management. While in college, he served as president of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and also served as a student senator on the University of Tennessee Student Government.

Mr. Hancock currently resides in Uptown New Orleans.  He enjoys playing golf, University of Tennessee athletics, New Orleans Saints football, New Orleans cuisine and Mardi Gras. Mr. Hancock is an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church, and a volunteer committee member with American Cancer Society, Audubon Nature Institute, and The National World War II Museum.

Blake Ridings

Blake Ridings began his commercial real estate career with Murphy Appraisal Services in January of 2008. Mr. Ridings is now a state certified general appraiser in Louisiana and Mississippi and Candidate for Designation as a member of the Appraisal Institute.

Over the course of his career Mr. Ridings has appraised a wide variety of commercial property types but has become especially proficient in the valuation of gas station/c-store properties, truck stop casinos and assisted living facilities. Other appraisal experience includes industrial facilities, churches, restaurants, residential subdivisions, along with single and multi-tenant retail and office properties.

Mr. Ridings is a 2006 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in business. In addition to appraisal work he is also a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Mr. Ridings and his wife Lauren reside in New Orleans with their daughter, Ruby.

James S. Montgomery

James S. Montgomery

James S. Montgomery joined Murphy Appraisal Services in September 2006 before becoming a state certified general real estate appraiser in 2013.  His work includes a wide variety of commercial properties throughout Southeast Louisiana with a primary focus on gas station valuations.  A New Orleans native, Mr. Montgomery graduated from Isidore Newman School before attending the University of Georgia, where he graduated cum laude with a dual-degree in English and journalism.  He currently resides in New Orleans with his wife, Elaine, and their two children, Mathilde and Spencer.

Scott Guidry

Scott Guidry

Scott Guidry joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2013. He is a native of Hammond, Louisiana and holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Louisiana State University. Since joining Murphy Appraisal Services, he has appraised a wide variety of property types ranging from offices, warehouses, restaurants, and industrial properties to subdivisions and vacant land.

Prior to joining Murphy Appraisal, he worked as a Senior Nuclear Equipment Operator at River Bend Station in St. Francisville, Louisiana. He also spent nearly a decade working as an environmental consultant and forester predominately in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. His environmental projects consisted of National Environmental Policy Act documents, Phase I environmental site assessments, jurisdictional wetland delineations, and threatened and endangered species surveys. Mr. Guidry is also a Mississippi Board Registered Forester.

Mr. Guidry currently resides in Hammond with his wife, Kate and their two sons, Hayden and Connor. In his free time he enjoys camping, fishing, and following the Saints and LSU sports.

Jeremy Loescher

Jeremy Loescher

Jeremy Loescher joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2011. His focus is the valuation of income producing real estate properties including hotels, retail centers, NNN lease investments, multi-family developments and mixed-use developments. Jeremy has also completed numerous specialized valuation assignments including industrial port facilities, Mississippi River batture and LME storage facilities.

Prior to joining Murphy Appraisal Services, Jeremy’s experience in the New Orleans market includes tax credit equity investments, investment banking and business valuation services. Jeremy completed his MBA at Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business in 2006. In 2001 he earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Clemson University.

Katherine Harang

Katherine Harang-Bourgeois

Katherine Harang-Bourgeois, a native of Thibodaux, LA, joined Murphy Appraisal Service in 2011.  Ms. Harang-Bourgeois has assisted in the valuation of a wide array of commercial properties, including vacant land, office, multi-family, and mixed use buildings, retail centers, and industrial properties.   She currently has her appraiser’s trainee license and is actively working toward obtaining her general appraiser’s license.  In the fall of 2013, Murphy Appraisal opened an office in Thibodaux to help better serve clients within the Thibodaux-Houma area and surrounding markets; Katherine works out of this office along with the New Orleans office. Ms. Harang-Bourgeois is active in the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, where she serves as a Chamber Ambassador. She is a member of the 2014 Leadership Lafourche class.   She attended Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business.

Steven Murray

Steven T. Murray joined Murphy Appraisal Services as a commercial appraiser in May of 2015. Mr. Murray is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and is a State of Mississippi Licensed Appraiser. After graduating from Mississippi State University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Management of Construction and Land Development, with a Minor in Business Economics, he worked for three years with the Mississippi Department of Transportation. In this role, Mr. Murray assisted on a wide range of right of way projects throughout Mississippi. Examples of these projects include new and existing highway expansion, local highway and interstate interchanges, and new and existing bridge construction. Steven currently resides in Hammond, Louisiana and is working toward his Certified General Appraisal License. In his free time, he enjoys traveling for live music, golf, and Mississippi State athletics.

Crawford Hodgson

Crawford Hodgson joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2015 as a Commercial Administrative and Research Assistant in our New Orleans Office. Garrett Chamberlain Goetz Jr

Garrett Chamberlain Goetz Jr. joined Murphy Appraisal Services in May, 2016 as a research assistant. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in December 2016, and is currently working to become a certified commercial appraiser at the Hammond office.  Mr. Goetz currently resides in Covington, Louisiana where he graduated from St. Paul’s high school. Lane-Larkin Davis

Lane-Larkin Davis joined Murphy Appraisal Services in 2017 and is currently working to become a commercial appraiser in our New Orleans office. Lane, a New Orleans native, graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart before attending Loyola University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences. Nathan S Pierre

Nathan S. Pierre joined Murphy Appraisal Services in October of 2017. He is native of Folsom Louisiana and attended Covington High School before graduating from Loyola University of New Orleans in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a minor in Accounting. At Loyola University, Nate was a member of the Men’s Basketball Program where he was part of a team that ended a 70-year play-off drought. He enjoys traveling, basketball, and learning new things.
